PIANO
MASTER A Method For Piano and Modern Harmony Cristóbal
delgado And Angel Blázquez
Piano Master is
a new piano method based on modern harmony.
Playing the piano is
an art, but also an "applied science". Likewise, it requires
knowledge
and skills (technique).
OBJECTIVES
To show with scientific
rigor, though in an orderly and simple way, the basis of this
Applied Science.
To Provide specific
knowledge and necessary technical resources.
To teach how to
get sounds scientifically organized, fron the melodic point of view as
well
as the harmonic one, and to combine them rhytmically.
Piano Master is
a complete method, that is, a sure and effective way to achieve these
objectives. Within its four volumes, it has all the melodic and harmonic
forms available, from the most simple to the most complex ones. It shows
the most appropriate techniques in order to execute them on the keyboard.
The experimentation was
achieved by the Cultural Association of Musical Research (ACIM) throughout
the years, on children, teenagers and adults, and with self-taught students
as during teaching sessions. This experimentation determined how to structure
the method in order to be available and effective.
Piano Master is
a highly practical method for beginners as well as for those in intermediate
or advanced level. All the activities get sense through their immediate
application on the keyboard.
Some parts are designed
to study the theory of Music which is essential, and try offer in a simple
way and with appropriate documentation the musical terminology needed
to understand music. (Musical Language).
Piano Master is
a complete method for beginners and advanced students who are eager to
learn how to play the piano, and handle the keyboard in a varied way,
whether they be self-taught or tutored by a teacher.
Detailed instruction
is given on learning to play on the keyboard.
THE
BOOK OF CONTENTSthat follows is an exposition of the theoretic
statements and the practice exercises of Piano Master. The examples
represented are only partial samples of the activities proposed in the
method.
Piano Master has
been published in a bilingual edition: Spanis and English.
Piano Master is
composed of four volumes of 376 pages each.
Its size is 8 1/2 x 11 (21,5 x 28 cm).

«Practical harmony
is the challenge of many pianists with a traditional educations. Piano
Master is a method that wants to combine the first contact wiht the piano
and practical harmony. You may not learm how to play like Bach, or the
subtlety of pedal that Debussy requires, but it is an interesting proposal
for musical language fluency and harmony in piano.
The method has four volumes. It may seem excessive, but the work starts
from the most simple point and contains practice exercises for almost
all the theoretic expositions. The publication is bilingual.
The first volume puts in practice the fundamental chords, but in the second
the final goal is demonstrated.(The last chapters are dedicated to Blues
and Jazz). The modal scales are shown as well as the way to harmonize
a melody. The third volume expands with harmonic patterns and changes
to the american music alphabet which consists of letters and names chords,
not functions, with the alphabetical symbol in roman numbers. This kind
of "code" is the most used in Jazz songs and popular music.
The forth volume presents the most available harmonic characteristics
(also rytmic, but less) of Blues and Jazz. Also there is a presentation
of the historic context of both styles.
Maybe the steps from the first volume to the second are not easy for those
who are starting to play the piano, but it is a very solid proposal for
those who desire to understand the "secrets" of improvisation
without being a Tete Montoliu, or going through the edifying and useful
lessons of accompanyment in the Superior Conservatory.
